Is a resort stay worth it when a plain hotel room costs less?
The fair comparison isn’t room rate against room rate — it’s what the family gets for the week. Westgate Resorts US & CA describes spacious accommodations and award-winning amenities across its portfolio, which is a different proposition from two hotel rooms down the hall from each other. Everyone fits in one place, and the resort itself becomes part of the trip rather than somewhere you sleep between outings.
There’s weight behind the name, too. The company was founded by David Siegel in 1982, is headquartered in Orlando, and today runs more than 60 resort properties with 9,000 team members, making it the largest privately held timeshare resort club in the world. In 2026 it was recognised by TIME as one of America’s Best Private Companies. If your hesitation is "will this be a gamble?", that record is the answer.
Current specials advertise savings of up to 20%, which narrows the price gap further.
What exactly happens with deposits, cards and check-in times?
This is where most hesitant bookers stall, so here are the plain facts. All room reservations require a credit card guarantee. Full deposits are required for all packages, including those with tickets — so if you book a package, expect to pay up front rather than at arrival. Accepted cards are American Express, Diners Club, Discover, Visa and Master Card/Eurocard.

Standard check-in is 4:00 PM and check-out is 10:00 AM. Early check-in and late check-out are available through the World of Westgate (WOW) Loyalty Program, based on tier status and availability — a reason to be enrolled before you arrive rather than after.
Linens and towels are provided. Additional housekeeping services need 24 hours’ notice, which is worth knowing on a longer stay. The minimum check-in age varies by resort, so check the Terms & Conditions page for the property you have in mind. None of this is unusual, and all of it is published in advance.
Can I use an AAA, senior or military rate — and what is the resort preview?
The booking form includes a Special Rates section with options for AAA Member Discount, Senior Discount, and Government & Military, plus fields for a Groups/Corporate code or a Travel Agency ID. If you hold one of those memberships, you select it while searching rather than asking at the desk afterwards, so you see the effect on your dates before committing.
Separately, there’s a checkbox on the same form offering savings of up to 40% by taking a resort preview. It’s an opt-in choice made during booking, not something applied without your say-so, and it sits alongside the current specials advertising up to 20% off.
The sensible approach is to run your dates once with your membership rate applied and once with the preview option ticked, then book whichever comes out ahead. Either way, you’re choosing from published offers rather than hoping for a deal at check-in.
Do the destinations cover the places I want to go?
The spread is wide enough that most trip ideas land somewhere. Orlando alone has seven properties, including Westgate Lakes Resort & Spa, Westgate Town Center and Westgate Vacation Villas. Beyond that: Las Vegas, Westgate New York Grand Central, Westgate Bimini Bay in the Bahamas, Myrtle Beach and Cocoa Beach on the coast, Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge in Tennessee, Branson, Williamsburg, Mesa, Palm Springs, Park City, Steamboat Springs, Tahoe, Sunriver, Cape Cod and Hawaii across the Big Island and Oahu.

Canada is covered through Sun Peaks and Vancouver in British Columbia, and Mexico through Torres Mazatlán. VI Resorts by Westgate, the newest points-based vacation club in the portfolio, adds further domestic and international destinations.
Group travel is catered for as well, with a Groups & Meetings section and a Request For Proposal form. So the question becomes which trip you want this year, not whether one exists.
Which properties have the recognition to back the booking?
If you want third-party proof before you commit, several resorts have it. Westgate River Ranch Resort & Rodeo was named the No. 1 Glamping Destination in the U.S. by USA Today’s 10Best Readers’ Choice Awards in 2023, set across 1,700 acres of Florida wilderness with ranch adventures and entertainment on site. Westgate Park City Resort & Spa has earned honours including Best Ski Resort and Best Destination Spa, with ski-in/ski-out access, dining and a spa.
In Branson, Westgate Branson Woods Resort and Westgate Branson Lakes Resort were recognised by U.S. News & World Report in 2023 among the Best Hotels in Branson and took the Best of Branson’s Best Resort Property award.
That’s a company trading since 1982, recognised by TIME in 2026, with awarded properties in the mountains, on the coast and out on the ranch — and specials of up to 20% waiting on your dates. Pick the destination and lock the rate in now.
